WWC and Chamber Opposition of New Recycling & Transfer Station in Woodinville

I disapprove of the waste transfer station and Woodinville

Very upset that this site is one of the top 3 under consideration. I live above the site and it would be a huge impact to me and my neighbors. I have lived here for over 20 years and the surroundings are what drew me here.

A recycle & transfer station in this community will impact tourism & quality of life in a negative way forever. We oppose the decision to consider this location.

If KC were to go ahead with the Woodinville dump site, it means displacing an existing, long-standing minority-own business with 100 of folks losing their gainful employments. The dump site will be directly across the 2-lane highway from Chrysalis High School, which means young, new drivers having to negotiate against more dump trucks and increased traffic. And without easy access to I-405, the traffic volume on Highway 202, the main conduit between Woodinville Business District and Hollywood Hill will be significantly increased. The increased traffic volume and size of vehicles, specifically of the large dump trucks which also possess their own unique, undesirable odor which will certainly degrade the quality of “Woodinville Wine Country” visits by tourists from all over the world. By placing this new dump site in Woodinville, King County goes completely against its own 2016 study and recommendation in nurturing and improving Woodinville wine and beverage industry and supporting and preserving farmland and rural areas. King County, do the right thing and redevelop the existing Houghton Station.

Siting of a transfer station at the proposed Woodinville location would have a negative impact on quality of life for local residents and significantly damage the future tourism and economic benefits of the Woodinville wine district.

It's just wrong to kick out any long standing business for a recycle center, when other sites are more suitable. It should not even have been a choice.

Please find a different location than Woodinville for the transfer station. It is a busy area for pedestrians, traffic, and bicyclists. The noise and odor pollution would be detrimental to many neighborhoods and tourist areas.

I want to echo others’ comments on the reasons why the Woodinville location is a bad choice for a Transfer Station. Additionally, the two Kirkland locations are already publicly owned land; while the government would have to purchase the privately owned land (by eminent domain I suppose) currently occupied by a minority owned business.

I live direct up the hill from where this will be. This will just add even more noise and smells to our already impacted neighborhood. This will also stress the already congested traffic from the 522 exit. It’s stupid to move the transfer station. I do not approve of this location. Rebuild the one in Kirkland. Those residents have already had it there for decades, it’s right off the freeway, and it’s not near schools homes and wine country. It’s zero impact to Kirkland. It’s actually an improvement.

We don't need added traffic.

Please remove the Woodinville/Redmond site from consideration for the proposed transfer site list. Woodinville has grown exponentially in the last 5 years to the point that traffic is horrendous. There has been over 300 apartments and proposed 42 townhouses and more built that has added to bumper to bumper traffic, accidents, and construction traffic turning our roads into a nightmare. Please don't add to our congestion. Our town is known for its wineries and breweries. Please

Do not recommend placing the Transfer Station at this location. It would displace the long-term family business operating here. Winsome Wood employees would be out of work or relocated. It is also extremely close to the sanctuary created by Woodinville's wine tasting community. I'm sure people don't want to be passing by a dump site on their way to relax and wine taste. This road has consistent traffic everyday and the construction alone would disrupt the daily lives of people living in the area. Please consider finding a better location for the transfer station, it is not wanted here.

This site is a poor choice for a litany of reasons: poor traffic from freeway to site, proximity to residential and sensitive open space, displacement of a current large minority owned business. The right site is the current Houghton transfer station, every neighbor there knew it was there when they bought and it is NOT a change.

In addition to the issues cited in the petition, the traffic congestion will not only impact the current businesses in the tourism industry, but it will also be an issue to the transfer station patrons. Weekend traffic during concert and wine season is already creating huge delays and will provide challenges to individuals who wish to drop off their garbage at a transfer station located at the proposed Woodinville address.
