I agree that college credits earned while in high school should be counted. If the credits are earned it should not matter when. Also, I feel it is the student's right to choose where they live. Sometimes dorm living is not for everyone and can interfere with the success of the student.

My boyfriend transferred from OSU last year where he lived off campus as a freshman, and is now having to be a part time student at WT and AC because WT would not allow him to be a full time student here and still live off campus (18 of his credits were from high school). They urged him to take out loans instead of staying debt free all because of this policy.

I feel that requiring one semester of on campus living is sufficient. Having lived in both on campus housing and off, I can honestly say that I performed better as a student living off campus. There were many less distraction and I was able fully experience life as an adult.

Students should be able to choose when they leave campus. I can see a one semester or one year rule. But I just purchased a house and moved off of campus as a sophomore this year, and College has gotten way better since then. My grades are up, I have better employment opportunities, believe it or not owning a $130,000 house costs nearly the same as living in the dorms per month considering you're only in the dorms 8 months. With the current policy, WT is setting students up for failure in my honest opinion. This policy requires you to stack on debt and get nothing out of it.

As a parent with two children attending WTAMU, I am fully in favor of allowing these young adults to live off campus with NO restrictions. I believe that is a choice to be made by the students and their parents, not the university.

This should only be a start. I personally think living on campus should be a one year deal, especially if the freshman classes are getting bigger. That or lower the darn price of living on campus no matter the building you living in!!

Most other schools only require one year of on campus living, WT should abide by that and allow greater flexibility to its students. The school is growing and with that, we need to acknowledge that some students are better suited for off campus living.

The policy definetly needs a change! For one I'm grown I don't need someone telling me I can't have someone over and the fines for so many things are just ridiculous and outrageous we pay so much for school and dorm cost already!

Dorm living IS NOT for everyone. Forcing students to live on campus is taking away from the "freedom" we thought we'd be granted after leaving our childhood homes. The rules, regulations and excessive forced group activities are just plain dumb for someone old enough to be in college. If you choose to have someone stay the night I should have the freedom to do so without a fine.
