It makes no sense to sell the second car when we have two full time police officers. It is a safety issue for the public and the officers. I think it would be wise for the council to treat the police department like the professionals that they are and stop treating them like spoiled children asking for another toy.

As a former Westfield Boro Officer I cannot stress enough the importance of a secondary vehicle. I have personally observed Chief Niles intentionally take immaculate care of the police vehicles for the purpose of ensuring reliability and extending longevity. The sale of a vehicle requiring minimal operating expense is ridiculous, especially when the equipment is used to provide the community with the most effective police services. The Westfield Borough council should be ashamed of themselves for compromising public and officer safety in the name of a "budget".

I have always felt safe in the borough of Westfield mainly because of your police protection. I know monies are always tight but agree that you must have a backup car for both the public and protection of your officers. I know I do not pay borough taxes but I shop as much as I can to help the town businesses and have been involved in Westfield for my entire 50 years I have lived in the area.

keep the car. It's less expensive than an officer being injured or killed while trying to use their own vehicles, which are not equipped to handle that type of job

I pay taxes in Westfield and am in favor of some of that tax money going toward a second vehicle for the town cops to use when they need it, even if it isn't being used constantly. I feel a backup vehicle to ensure that they're able to do their job even if the other car breaks down or is needed for another purpose is important for the safety of the town as well as the officers. There are a lot of ways that money can be spent frivolously, but this is not one of them.

There is no amount of money you could be saving that can justify the serious safety issues selling the second police car can bring. Horrible idea! Keep the second police car or better yet, get the policemen the equipment the need and deserve to do the job!
