It wouldn't take a lot to convert this second structure into a separate residence at some point in the future. Since it is set back so far, it would be possible that a conversion to a residence wouldn't be discovered until it was done. Isn't that exactly what happened with the trees? The property owner stated he did not intend to remove trees according to the ARB minutes from 6/11/15.

When I emailed the new homeowners she said she grew up in Worthington, and that they currently live in riverlea. I begged them not to take the trees out. I asked why Worthington and not Lewis center where they wouldn't have to destroy such a great lot. Her kids go to private school so they don't really need to be here and change our neighborhood. She wouldn't respond. This can't happen again.

When people buy in a particular neighborhood, it is often BECAUSE of the character of that neighborhood. This and strong zoning have blessed the residents of Worthington with a wonderful place to call home and a high resale value. Newer residents to the area should respect that or find another neighborhood, where they might be able to do what they wish with their property.

This makes me so sad to see someone moving into the neighborhood I grew up in and greatly appreciate, totally disregard the natural and beautiful aesthetics of the Medick Estates. This is truly one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city and it is an absolute same what these new members of the neighborhood have done.

I live at 255 Highgate Ave. In addition to petitioning against this variance, we've learned the city of Worthington needs to have some governance in regard to the removal/cutting of mature trees, and with distance consideration given for neighboring properties.

Their building plans are contrary to the neighborhood’s esthetic and have already razed former natural habitat.
During the tree removal process the owner distributed an email which included the following text “We fell in love with the Medick Estates area was the mature vegetation. That was the number one factor as to why we purchased the property. When we first visited it, we knew our kids would be so excited to see the deer and other wildlife in the yard. We love the idea of having our own nature oasis within the city limits!” It’s obvious that their stated motivation was contradictory to the actions taken. Based on this inconsistency, I strongly suggest that the implication of the variance be evaluated in consideration of how the future use of the structure might deviate from that stated on their application.

I live at at 279 Highgate and one of the reasons we bought our home was the beautiful backyard view. I am so perplexed and saddened why someone would want to move into our old established community, only to level beautiful trees. There aren't many neighborhoods like ours left in Columbus--people move and STAY here for the character of the homes and mature trees.

I support this petition. I grew up on Highgate Ave and live @ 327 Highgate today.
This zoning variance request is a travesty for the area. The changes requested will most certainly alter the character of the neighborhood and the adjacent properties would suffer a substantial detriment.

My heart breaks every time I walk by property. The owners have shown no respect for the neighborhood or appreciation for for the beauty and the history of Medick Estates. There is no need for this large structure. Please reject the variance.

The applicant has been completely insensitive to the appearance of their lot and their impact on a pleasant neighborhood. Nothing should be done to further desecrate the greenery of this property

This owner seems to want to change all the current guidelines/charm of neighborhood. House, garage, landscape, etc. It seems greedy and extravagant.

The applicants should never have purchased this property in this neighborhood if they want to make changes of this magnitude which are way out of the normal and the look of the neighborhood. Further more they should be held to replacing the removed trees, with similar diameter trees or paying the fines as required by ordinance. These guys give the term "bad neighbor" a new standard of behavior.
