Woodland Senior Request

Hello Class of 2018! This is Dr. Ellis! I am not sure who started this petition but I think that it is super important to come directly to the source for your information as I could easily answer these questions for you! We will continue to have the same cords that we have had in the past. This is not changing. Those cords are as follows: Recognition of Honor Cords: “A” Average – Red and White Cord National Honor Society – White Cord Beta Club – Black and Gold Cord National Art Honor Society – Rainbow Cord German National Honor Society – Red, Black, and Gold Cord Science National Honor Society – Purple, Green, and Gold Cord National History Honor Society – Burgundy Cord French National Honor Society – Red, White, and Blue Cord National Mathematics Honor Society – Light Blue and Gold Cord National English Honor Society – Royal Blue and Gold Cord Spanish National Honor Society – Red and Gold Cord Governor’s Honors Program – Light Blue Cord For your class, the Henry County Board of Education (per the Handbook) will not recognize Honor graduates any more. The school district, will be fully implementing the Latin Honor System with your class and going forward. We will however recognize Cum Laude graduates as we have for the past two years at graduation. As for the Senior quotes, these are not going away either! We will continue to have these as part of your Senior traditions. And as far as the caps and gowns, we do not decorate caps at WHS. Graduation is a formal ceremony and if you were able to attend this past year's graduation, you would see that it is an amazing event and the inconsistency of the caps takes away from amazing pictures and unity of a graduating class. We should be allowed to have our chords and a senior quote.. it isn’t fair that we’ve had to wait years of school to not get a quote or chords while others have.

The cords show our accomplishments and the senior quotes let us leave school with words of wisdom so why take that away.

I think we should be allow to wear our cords that we deserve to have them during our graduation because some of us we work for these and be allow to.

If anything, the class of 2018 at WHS should definitely be allowed to wear honor chords at graduation. It isn't fair for students to work hard all year/ throughout their high school years to not be able to show that off at graduation! Not fair at all!

I'm in total support of this petition of having cords and senior quotes to remain in affect and/or reinstated. To take away our senior's hardwork and accomplishments, dedicated achievements from being recognized and honored during their graduation ceremony is an absolute disrespect and insult to our students. Requesting that your upmost attention and respect for our students/seniors be appreciated, acknowledged, and honored.

I am for chords and MOST definitely for senior quotes.

Very disheartening to know all of our children's hard work will not be shown at graduation. I personally would love to see these changes be made.

I think the class of 2018 should be able to do all of these things because to be honest they are a great class and have worked hard to earn these privileges so they should get them!

Yes I've signed this twice but only cause I need to comment, I don't think it's right to take away our chords when we worked extremely hard to get them and your just gonna take that away from us I don't think that is right in any form possible we should be able to decorate our caps with our chords to show everyone how hard we worked the past 4 years now!

As a student who has worked extremely hard for 4 years. I believe we ( class of 2018 ) deserve to wear our well deserves chords and decorate our caps. Decoration of Caps are a tradition that represent our hardship and originality, taking this away is stripping us of exactly that.

The students worked hard for the cords so they should have the honor of wearing them proudly.

This is ridiculous you can't take these away from us we've earned them this is not what a good principal does to their students.

The students have worked hard for their accomplishments since Freshman year and should be recognized. This is a once in a lifetime experience.

It's not fair to students that have worked hard their entire senior year to receive cords and then have them snatched away from us!

PATHETIC! But absolutely INDICATIVE of a society that wants to give EVERYBODY a trophy. Hey, even when they hand out TROPIES FOR PARTICIPATION, they still recognize 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. The ones that put FORTH the extra effort to achieve top ranking ABSOLUTELY DESERVE to be RECOGNIZED! The PATHETIC PARTICIPATION TROPHY is NOT sufficient to RECOGNIZE the EXTRA EFFORT and PERSONAL SACRIFICE!!! Wow!!! It is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE when our PUBLIC SCHOOLS discourage PERFORMANCE. WHATS NEXT? Elimination of the A,B,C,D,F grading scale? YEP! It will be PASS or FAIL!! The D students will be grouped with the A students. And people wonder WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR SOCIETY? WHY OUR YOUTH HAVE NO WORK ETHICS? WHY THERE IS NO RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY? Go figure!

I'm just happy I'm graduating. Little things like not putting a quote in the yearbook shouldn't matter, but I'll sign it for my class
