Lift the Ban on Women in Ministry

We
realize that devout New Church people can find adequate scripture to
justify either side of the Women in Ministry debate, but there is one
incontrovertible fact concerning the relationship between Jesus Christ
and women: he never condoned sexual discrimination or the implied
subservience of women.
This
view that the Lord considers women to be inferior to men is creating an
environment in which violations against women are justified, both
world-wide and in our community.
The
truth is that male New Church leaders have had – and still have – an
option to interpret the Writings either to exalt or subjugate women.
They have, for a variety of reasons , overwhelmingly chosen the latter.
We no longer accept the current policy, or the rationale offered to
support its continuation. Therefore, we support the following:
Call to Action:
1.
CLERGY: enough damage done. Choose to be leaders. Take a stand – create
an environment where violations against women based on discrimination
and subservience have no place. Sign on to eliminate this discriminatory
policy against Women In Ministry.
2.
GENERAL CHURCH BOARD: mandate a change in position. Withdraw funding
from those who don’t commit to ending the discriminatory anti-Women In
Ministry policy.
3.
PEOPLE: do the next right thing. We’ve acquiesced to this mess for too
long. Only we can change it. Sign this petition and talk to your
pastor. Today.
