After researching, donkeys can only carry 20% of their body wheight. The average adult donkey is 500lbs, so they can carry 100lbs or lighter... college students aren't that light so simply the act of riding them puts them at risk. Also, we have to keep in mind that many of the participants may be drunk and there will be a ball flying around which also puts the animals at risk. I don't see how this event isn't a mistreatment of these donkeys

This is animal cruelty and completely unnecessary. It's kinda the worst to be honest.

As a student, I will protest at the event and believe many others will be inspired to come out to show that Wittenberg is better than this.

As an alumni, I'm appalled that this has even been considered as an event. Witt knows better.

This needs to stop because it is not ok for others to ride on donkeys when they can easily just play basketball themselves. It also puts the donkeys at extreme risk with not only the basketballs but to others playing the game.

As an insurance agent, I looked up "Donkeyball Ohio" and they do not assume liability, They place it on the sponsor. I am unsure of any policy in my 15 years of commercial insurance which would cover such an event. Federal court cases against this organization agree.

Using animals for such mindless "sport" is unconscionable.

Whichever org is holding the event should opt to have it's students get on all fours and have those who participate ride them. It would be practically free to hold the event, meaning more to donate.
