Adopted by Governor Sonny Perdue and State Superintendent Kathy Cox in 2010, implementation of the Common Core Standards in Georgia over the past 2 years has caused much controversy among parents, educators, politicians, and business leaders. While many proponents claim that CCS is not a federal program, it is clearly an attempt at a centralized educational system funded by big business, primarily Bill Gates, to make money through data collection to better market to families. Please join in this effort to call for an end to the CCS implementation. It’s not what’s best for our children; it’s truly what’s best for those in big business to make more money.

February 12, 2014

I have spent my week reading through the messages you all shared about how these standards are disrupting your children's classrooms. It strengthens my resolve to keep pushing back against this corporate influence on our schools.

February 12, 2014

Seeing this movement grow confirms that I am not the only one worried about these corporate interests dictating what our children learn in the classroom. Your support validates the frustration I feel when I look at the materials coming home in my own kid's backpack.

CC is a colossal overreach by the Federal government and select corporations that control the copyrights and data collection process stand to reap enormous profits. It is not proven nor is it benchmarked. It was not created by educators and it usurps all control from parents and local school boards. In addition, the data mining is reminiscent of the worst totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. Common Core must be terminated.

Children need to be able to think critically and for themselves. No two persons are alike and you can not make a one size fits all curriculum. Please withdraw this nonsense.

Please return our educational system to the "common sense" reading, writing, spelling, history, english, geography and math curriculum that better prepares children for the real life they will have to live in their futures.
