We the locals of Williamstown village are concerned about the potential use of our credit union building to house IPAS (International Protection Accommodation Service).
This building is located in the heart of our small village, that has limited anemities, job opportunities and transportation in this rural village.
The proposed building is located on the main street at a busy junction, it has no recreational area. It is not suitable for intened use. It would have a huge impact for the local residents.
We need your signature to object to the potential planning permission the proprietor will need to submit in order to change the use of the building.
This petition will also be submitted with any submissions sent to local council and an bord Pleanála.

Its getting busier than I ever expected and seeing those numbers climb makes me think we might actually get someone to listen to these concerns about the village. If you could just send this link off to a few neighbors right now I think we could finally clear this hurdle and show the council we mean business.

I just saw the count hit one hundred and honestly my brain is still kind of stuck back when this was just me worrying about that building being totally wrong for our corner of the village. It is wild to see so many people who actually care about the impact on our main street and the lack of space there because really it is just not a spot for this kind of setup.

I honestly never thought we would see this kind of traction when I started typing this up at my kitchen table with such a headache. It is wild to see how many people in Williamstown actually feel the same way about that junction building and honestly it makes the late nights of reading through all your comments worth every second of screen time.

As is happening all over the country disused buildings are being taken over and prepared to take either Ukrainian refugees or IPAS asylum seekers . There has been no consultation with locals and no indication of who this accommodation is for. There are few if any amenities in Williamstown. If its IPAS that are coming what are these undocumented males going to do to pass the time. putting up tri colour & Galway flags is telling us nothing.
More info required on the purpose of this building. Full consideration needs be priority for the community. How would it be to any benefit to the community in a small village where jobs, doctors and resources are already stretched?
Totally inappropriate place to house who ever is coming here. No space for children to play. No amenities ie buses, gp surgery, garda station, train station. Money hungry developer lining his pockets. Shame on him!
More information required. A tiny village that doesn’t have enough facilities for the locals such a permanent Doctor. Would worry me if this went ahead for the future of the village.
I spoke to a lady last night and she informed me that her child living in this community all her life was refused a place on the school bus to Glenamaddy community school because the bus is filled this lady has to drive her child to Glenamaddy each morning and collect her each evening and she lives approximately 8 miles from Glenamaddy we don't have resources for any more
Community too small.
This is not a suitable building as it is on the corner of a very busy road and there is very little amenities no public transport and very little services for the local people

I am concerned about safety, ar night in particular, as this is literally next door to my house. Any concerns I have will come across as racist or, at the very least, uncaring to people who have lost everything. However, this village and that building are not an appropriate place to accommodate refugees/asylum seekers. To be honest, I'm furious with our government for allowing this to further erode rural Ireland and those that seek to profit off the backs of the unfortunate people that are being housed in towns and villages that haven't the infrastructure to cope. It's a no win situation.
