Granby CT residents only (Granby, West Granby, and North Granby) Signature has to be verified by the town as a resident. Please sign first and last name. Thank you !!

Bear are a wonderful part of living in Granby. They are the town mascot. It’s important for the safety of bear, humans and domestic animals that we be spectators only. Selfishly increasing their visits to our yards by feeding them, on purpose or carelessly keeping our trash, is not safe for them or us. There have already been losses of domestic animals and property damage, as well as an increasing number of vehicle vs bear deaths. It’s only a matter of time before a person is injured by a bear that is habituated to humans.

Therefore: A town ordinance is being proposed that will prohibit feeding attracting of wildlife accidentally or purposely to protect all.

Enforcement will be by the town animal control officer

I have been in contact with the town clerk to verify that our signature requirements align with the proposed ordinance language. A meeting request is currently pending with the animal control office to discuss the specific enforcement protocols we are advocating for.

Woman in north granby constantly feeds bears. Recent auto/bear accident resulted in bear being killed and property damage at location. This activity is a public Nuisance and could cause bear attacks and more property damage.

While the BOS finally has agreed to draft an ordinance, keep the education and momentum going. We did end up purchasing a bear proof garbage bin and don’t see the bears nearly as much as we used to. Fed bears are dead bears. :-(

10 years ago bears would be skittish. Now they are not even startled by a lawn mower or air horns. Working from home they come regularly up to the patio area. What is next, breaking and entry? Feeding must stop.

This is an important issue. Preventing bears from becoming too accustomed to people by banning feeding them makes people, pets, and the bears themselves safer. Problem bears get euthanized. Wild bears can co-exist with people.

as an animal control officer I see way too many bears and other wildlife be dispatched (killed) because they become too human friendly. PLEASE pass this so other towns and states will see its not right.

We put our garbage cans in the garage because ammonia and bleach don't work any longer and then a neighbors garage was severly damage by a bear trying to get in. My dogs have chased them into the street. Feedings need to stop before someone gets seriously injured!

The more citizens who feed these black beauties the more they are giving ammo for future bear species thinning

A fed bear is a dead bear its commons sense to not feed wildlife.
