BEAR feeding ordinance

The more citizens who feed these black beauties the more they are giving ammo for future bear species thinning

Woman in north granby constantly feeds bears. Recent auto/bear accident resulted in bear being killed and property damage at location. This activity is a public Nuisance and could cause bear attacks and more property damage.

While the BOS finally has agreed to draft an ordinance, keep the education and momentum going. We did end up purchasing a bear proof garbage bin and don’t see the bears nearly as much as we used to. Fed bears are dead bears. :-(

A fed bear is a dead bear its commons sense to not feed wildlife.

Yes, Please do try to stop any feeding. all feeding of wild animals is wrong in IMO. There are very few exceptions. The odds are now against both us and the bears for peace.

Intentional bear feeding is irresponsible and dangerous, and unfair to bears who will be dependent upon that feeding. Granby BOS, please take heed of your constituents and nearby towns and enact an ordinance to prevent this.

I realize bears are part of the environment my family chose to live in. However, I am concerned that some residents are feeding these animals. Please do something to address this safety risk.

My only comment is why it has taken 2 years.

We have lived in North Granby for 35 years and have always enjoyed the wildlife wandering through our yard however in the past 5 or 6 years there has been a very noticeable increase of bears. It doesn't help that we have two neighbors who insist on leaving their trash barrels out unprotected. Also I do quite a lot of hiking on our beautiful Granby trails with my dog and very frequently encounter bears. I was actually cornered by a bear at Penwood State Park two years ago and had to call for assistance. We need to do something, just asking folks to do the right thing is not working, time to get tougher.

We have lived “with” the bears for over 15 years. We’ve felt blessed to be able to live in such a place. They would always run off when they heard our voices & were amazing to see. Over the past couple years, while we are outside, making noise, they will wander through with no fear. Within feet of us. Mama’s with Cubs, solo bears, etc. We’ve even had two separate occasions of them walking right up to us. Almost as if they are looking for a cookie like a dog would. This is dangerous for everyone, particularly the bears who are being taught that this is the route to survival, and a direct result of irresponsible humans.

10 years ago bears would be skittish. Now they are not even startled by a lawn mower or air horns. Working from home they come regularly up to the patio area. What is next, breaking and entry? Feeding must stop.

Leaving food for bears also attracts less desirable visitors such as coyotes

I live on Lost Acres Road and am grateful for the abundance of wildlife. I do everything I can to discourage animals from getting close to my house. Safer for me and safer for them. We need data that can compel those who feel otherwise to be educated and STOP FEEDING the BEARS!

This is too dangerous for Children and Pets and Adults in the area.

I love watching the bears through my ring camera late at night as they walk onto my front porch. They sniff, verify there is no food and then gently move on. They are nature's beauty and know how to survive in nature without human intervention. Please let them do what they do best all on their own.

Nature is a wonderful thing but it should not be encouraged to view humans as a food source. Let them naturally thrive but at no point should we think to feed a bear and rob it of its natural change at survival
