A Vote on Trans Women Joining Women's Institutes

My mum is a member as was my Nan… women’s organisations that bring a wide group of women together around shared beliefs and goals should exist for women. I know I’m not part of that group and so don’t join even though I think the WI does great work. Acknowledging that a group for eg. religious women is not for atheists, but that an atheist woman has the right to join where a religious man does not is all part of how we separate the need for single sex spaces and tolerance… acknowledging that I would not join on the basis that, despite being a woman, I don’t share this organisation’s core vbeliefs… even when I share your values, is how we should operate in a decent society.Respect others by giving them space to congregate with others who share their beliefs.

Making WI single sex for biological females would encourage myself and many other women to join.

I'm an internationally acclaimed photographer whose images strongly feature women and girls. I was asked to speak at a local WI meeting in Cumbria where I live and refused, as I cannot support an organisation claiming to be by and for women but who includes men. The group said they didn't support the WI policy but had not been given a say!

I do not wish for a man in a dress trying to call himself a woman to be allowed to join our Women’s Institute. This is and should remain a women ( biological woman) only membership.

Sex can't be changed. Men are not and never can be women.

No men in women's organisations. Whatever they call themselves, however they dress, they are still men.

Bring back sex segregated activities. Bring back respect for women.

The WI is for women not men.

The WI is - or should be - for women, not for men acting out their fantasy of what a woman is. The presence of such men deters a lot of women, myself included, from joining the WI

Stop men joining the WI.

The National Federation of WIs, a democratic, non-party political and voluntary organisation, formed mainly led by women who were involved in the suffrage movement. Why would you surrender these principles?

A woman is a biological adult human female. No one can become a woman who was not born one.

I was recently looking to join the WI and then I found out it was no longer a single sex space. Women need our own spaces away from those born male. I would not join it with its current mixed sex policy.

I won't join the WI until it's a women only organization. As soon as you have men in the room, they change the dynamic, however they identify.

Men playing dress up have no place in a Women's institution. If the WI can't take a stand on this then we are lost for future generations of girls.

I will not join unless it is single sex.

I know the age range of WI is diverse but my local group is fairly uniform of women over 60. . An older man presenting as a woman will have no life experience similar to other members. The group would be validating this person. I won’t do that and I feel it would also make other members to feel the same. Enough of being kind .A trans woman being on the front cover just was too much: men can be better women? Sorry I’ve seen enough and heard enough

No man regardless of his identity should be permitted into women only spaces or groups.

No men in women's spaces however those men identify.

Single sex spaces are so important for the dignity, privacy and safety for women and girls.
