This is absolutely ridiculous. The beep test is a measure of aerobic fitness that allows, if governed correctly, an accurate and measurable result of individual aerobic fitness at that time (the fitness that makes us live longer). In the short term it can push young people to feel sick, dizzy or in the very rare occasion twist on ankle, the same way any sport can. Someone commented that a person had a heart attack during a beep test, well clearly there was an underlying heart condition which would have popped up once that person was under any type of physical stress; at least they were with people who could get immediate help and not climbing some stairs in an isolated building where they could have lay unoticed for a long period of time. Obesity is exponentially increasing, fitness and well being both mentally and physically are decreasing. One of the reasons; lack of understanding. The beep test is one of many used to identify personal aerobic fitness levels so the individual can identify where they are and how to improve, it then offers tangeable results from that. The fact that young people do it as a group is a good thing, its not cruel to subject them to competition. Life is a competition, and some parts we are strong at, some we are weak at. The person who gets a low score in a beep test may be getting an A+ in English, while the Dyslexic person can't get above a D but scores high in fitness. This allows everyone to feel, understand and utilise their strengths/weaknesses which will aid them in every aspect of life. Running laps is an inconsistent method as you are only catering for intrinsically motivated young people. Those who dont care will just walk and say they are not bothered and therefore never truly recognise their full potential. However in a beep test the competition aspect adds value and makes everyone push towards their individual best. I hope this finds you in the right intention, I am voicing my opinion and it is neither r
