With all due respect to the person who has began this petion, I think that there has been a miscommunication and understanding on why some people are asking for the fencing of the school. First et me clarify that the community will still have access to the school grounds during the weekends and school holidays , as the gate WILL NOT be locked. Secondly, and most importantly, is the continual sexuall assault of a child in the schoo, premises DURING school time. There where two offenders, one which has not yet been identified. The petition to have the school fenced, is to minimise the risk to our children. IIt woud be nice to believe that our beautiful community is immune to the ugliness that does exist, however the reent attempted abduction of an 11 year old copa kid on copacabana drive proves that we are not. We as a community need to do everything we need to protect our children. Our jobs as parents is to ensure the safety of our children, and stop believing that ur community is immune to this type of crimes.

The grounds are a convenient play space for children that does not exisit elsewhere in Copa and needs to be retained

One of the main reasons we were attracted to Copa school in the 1st place was its open and welcoming feeling. Fences are not going to keep trouble out, having aware kids and responsible adults is what will help. Please dont do this.
fences - keep the law abifing out and show the criminals that you have something worth stealing.

Congratulations everyone and thankyou. Its a wonderful thing when people speak up and support/debate an issue.
At 100 signatures, I will close off the petition and take it to the P&C meeting on the 11th. Anyone wish to come along, please do. I dont believe this is one of those issues that will require a 'show of numbers'. The message is clear in the comments.

As a Copa school parent I am totally opposed to a fence locking the community out of the school. The P&C's money would be much better spent on a covered walkway to the demountable classroom so the kids can stay dry.

i went to Copa, i love the play ground and the open space around the school! i still go to play and hang out with my friends ... there is no need to fence in freedom
Why fence it or even consider it has something happened or just new mums trying to change what has worked for all of us

Please don't fence copa school. I grew up practically across the road from the school 30yrs ago & it was the neighborhood backyard & still is today. It would be horrendous to see a ugly great big fence there.

Our children enjoyed running and kicking a ball on the only fsafe flat area in Copa and now their children are doing the same. PLEASE don't lock them out

I'd hate to see the school fenced off. We live in a trusting and open community in Copa and I don't want our children to learn any other way of being.
