White Hart Lane Footbridge- Barnes

Please please a bridge would be so much safer for the children using the crossing every day.

Excellent idea. @JohnR, with respect, I understand the value of advertising, but request we don't use it here. I feel it dehumanises us and gives a message that our communities are assets for sale. We have enough of it on TV, Social (?) Media.

It is surprising not to have a footbridge at such a busy crossing.

So dangerous at school times. Too many people crossing all at once plus traffic. It's only a matter of time before a serious accident happens

This bridge must be provided before there is a serious incident at this crossing.

We urgently need a proper bicycle, pram and footbridge here. Communities are split and with the gates closed for most of the time. I spend a significant part of my life waiting (and sometimes fuming) at those gates on my bike from East Sheen to Barnes and Hammersmith and Central London

I lived on Whitehart Lane for about 30 years and on many occasions was nearly banged by cars when trying to cross after the gates went down. I also used to wince as I saw mums trying to push buggies over with other children in tow.

For those who say this facility would cause adjacent properties to be 'overlooked' if the bridge is placed on the Eastern side of the barriers (which is the only area where there is space to place it) those people walking across the bridge would be able to overlook the Ruffels Garage and the allotments if they were so inclined. Part of the problem with the the number of times the barrier is raised seems to stem from an adjustment to time tabels which has made the period between high speed trains leaving the station before White Hart Lane etc much shorter than it was previously and therefore the local 'stopper' trains which have to be allowed for in both directions are spaced evenly between them. This leaves no 'Safe' period between services for the barriers to be raised. Perhaps a review of those time tables could alleviate a good deal of the waiting. Should still have a Pedestrian Bridge though.

Hi Ros, and your point is? There should be one at White Hart lane, you can't be suggesting that because no one uses the Mortlake Bridge while you are sitting there it is obsolete? If it prevents one impatient pedestrian from risking their lives by hopping the barrier it will be worth it. Network Rail have a right of way through our community and with that come s anobligation to minimise wait times and maximise safety. If they build it we will come.

I wholeheartedly agree with this petition, having seen people risk their lives in trying to rush through because the barriers can sometimes remain down for 4 or 5 trains, taking anything around 20 minutes to wait.

I agree that a footbridge would be a good addition and help to make the area safer.

Urgently needed. I've personally seen several insidents where pedestrians have very nearly been hit by cars at this crossing. Due to the three primary schools that are close by, it is particularly dangerous for young children.
