Have you noticed your children only PRINT their name? Have you noticed that maybe only a few CURSIVE handouts come home in 3rd grade? Maybe none came home? That is because our School System has STOPPED teaching Cursive handwriting to our children. Researchers say that Cursive writing is an ART. When we start to eliminate Cursive writing we start to loose that part of our brain which makes the artistic connection to form the letters. How will our children sign a check? sign their Mortgage? sign their Will? How will our children read their grandparents letters and notes? Our letters and notes? Will they be able to read our Historical documents? Our Constitution? Computers are used on a regular basis. However, have you noticed your children hit the keys? They are not taught the Home position. How are we helping our children if we don't teach them typing AND we take away Cursive writing?
Please help support our fight. We truly believe that there is time in our children's academic day to take a few minutes a few times per week to learn a basic, fundamental technique.

I have been reading through the notes you left here and they have moved me to tears. It is overwhelming to realize that so many people feel this same gap in our classrooms. Thank you for showing me that I am not alone in this search for answers.

how are they going to sign legal papers later on? just x marks the spot? this is basic stuff people need to know.
my daughter is in 6th grade and cant even read her grandmas birthday cards. its honestly embarrassing that they dropped this.
Schools focus way to much on screens and lost the basics. Bring back penmanship!
As a teacher, I see such a value in the art of cursive. It makes my heart sad that we've stopped teaching it.
It takes my 7th grader 2 minutes to sign his first and last name, and it looks likes he's writing with his toes! My 5th grader is no better. It's a shame. It's not like the kids don't write in school, why can't they complete a reading response in cursive once a week for a little extra practice? My 5th grader asked me the other day, 'Mom, how do you know how to type with out looking." I suppose I should work with them on these skills when they get home, but they are in school so much of the day.... there is no time left.
Harder to print long papers than to write.. ridiculous!
