Wouldn't having a Costco on the East side make living here so affordable and convenient? Why not Shipman Industrial?

Question: Doesn't Costco have to ship to Hilo first anyway before trucking it all over to Kona? If so something really smells rotten for us on the East side.

We were regular Costco shoppers (even had a business that went 4-5 times a week). But since moving to the BI a year ago we have only made the trip once to Kona for Costco. Too much time and gas. We shop in Hilo but miss certain advantages that Costco has besides better prices (like computors and household items, variety of food items, etc. Please give east side a good look...there is plenty of land available and good strong customer base.

I live in Hilo. Everyone I know makes the trek to Kona once or twice a month, but no one likes to. 60 miles does not equate to 60 minutes here on the Big Island. All Mr. Jelinek (Costco CEO) would have to do is check the addresses on the members that shop at the Kona store, and I'd put money on most of the customers living on the East side. I had heard from local sources that this was supposed to happen years ago, but the KTA stores donated to certain campaigns to keep Costco at bay. Don't know if it's true, but it certainly doesn't sound unreasonable.

I live in Hilo. I had a Costco membership once, and I let it lapse because I could not justify the cost of traveling to Kona. I would restart membership for a store located in East Hawaii. Your company cannot afford not to have one here.

The additional memberships that Costco would get will be substantially greater than the slight drop in business the Kona store will suffer with the loss of east hawaii customers. 1 out of 5 people I talk to have a membership already. And 4-5 people say they would get a membership if Costco were on the east side. It makes economic sense. Costco requires land ownership not DHH lease like target and safeway. The only place with big enough space and fee simple ownership that I know of is Shipman Industrial Park. The keaau intersection at 130&11 is perhaps the most traveled intersection on this side of the island. Please mr. James Sinegal open a Costco in East Hawaii. It will pay dividends to your company and help the folks of East Hawaii, Kau, and Hamakua.

I live in Kona and see that majority of Costco users come from Hilo and puna area. These people have to waste time and money to drive all the way to Kona to shop. We have 2 Walmarts only makes sense to have 2 costcos. Costco in Kona is so overcrowded that people get bad attitudes rushing around like race car drivers inside the store and out. And I don't blame them. But "we" keep going there anyways.

Wake up Costco! Look at census! Target has 2 stores on theb huge Island of Hawaii. You can take all of the islands and super impose them over the Big Island and still have open real estate.
