I have also been through this a couple of times and in my experience it's so tough to understand mentally but to physically go through this awful process and have to work while pretending to be happy is just wrong! My employer however was wonderful both times, but I understand not every boss is this way! Things need to change for the better!!

I personally believe all pregnant woman no matter how far along should be entitled to at least three days bereavement leave.

I'm a first time mum and i love my son to pieces, but i know that many mums loose their babies while pregnants and want to support the cause of recognising those babies as part of their families because i believe there is life from the very moment of conception.

I agree i lost my son at 16weeks (4months) and it takes alot to get through it so legally everyone should b in titled to 3 days pay for bereavement leave its alot emotionally and physically for ur body and mind to go through people should understand that and the government needs to make change alright! I send my love to u and ur family my thoughts r with u sorry for ur loss I know how hard it is. take care

i definitely think it's the law that has to change, i don't blame my employer at all, i have a fantastic boss was great throughout the whole pregnancy. I had a lot of time off for various reasons, he would even find me sleepng in the smoko room during work and nothing was ever said. I recently sat down with him to discuss this issue and get his view on it. We tried to find out more information and it is VERY unclear as to what we are entitled to. In fact as far as we could see, the employer doesn't have to give any paid bereavement leave in these circumstances, he gave me one day because he felt it was unfair. So! it's the government to blame not our employers!!! He even said maybe I should start a petition...I told him I already had started one because this seems totally unreasonable and so so unfair. So now it's up to us to be heard and stand our ground!!! Thankyou for all your support so far, I really hope we get heard!!!

that is bull crap!!! sorry but i totally HATE NZ law!!! after the 12 weeks safe mark is when they are fully part of the family but i personally think the day of the first scan at 6weeks is whn they should be considered as part of the family..... i know both my sons were....

having suffered 4 recurrent miscarriages I fully understand the need to have time to grieve. I am self employed and was able to take time off. You should be able to take time off even when employed. Hopefully this becomes a reality

I too have been here and not allowed bereavement leave. As soon as you know you are pregnant, you are a family! This is wrong and even then, three days is not enough!

There is something very wrong with that law. Unfortunately we are a Country run by idiots, if you don't succeed I would suggest trying again when National are no longer in charge. Good luck.
