We the undersigned, being desirous of a better approach to the regulation of chickens within the city limits of Salem, Virginia, do hereby agree to the following:

We greatly appreciate the efforts of city officials and staff to resolve conflicts in the city code to legally allow keeping of chickens within city limits.

The proposed draft for zoning ordinance 106-318 should not be passed as it is currently written:
• It is in need of modification to address critical flaws, errors in the research, and errors in the wording.
• It conflicts with existing laws and ordinances within the city code.
Until such time as the necessary and proper modifications to the proposed draft ordinance 106-318 can be made, we recommend the word "chicken"
be removed from section 106-602.1 in the city code and zoning ordinances to resolve the conflict with other city laws.
