Last year, a study estimated that 8 million metric tons of our plastic waste enter the oceans from land each year. Plastic waste pollutes our lands and kills our oceans, breaking down into toxic micro-plastics that eventually end up in our food and our bodies. WeWork contributes to this environmental catastrophe by providing and disposing of hundreds of thousands of plastic and mixed paper/plastic cups each day. We understand that it has plans to roll out a zero-plastic policy after piloting it in select locations, but we demand that plastic cups are removed IMMEDIATELY and that non-disposable options are provided. If WeWork plans to gift reusable bottles to its users we expect them to be from recycled materials. We ask that WeWork switch to 100% renewable electricity. We ask that WeWork provide compostable food bins. We ask that WeWork provide non-individually wrapped plastic-free tea bags. We ask that WeWork refrain from purchasing food containing unsustainably sourced palm-oil, which causes widespread environmental destruction. WeWork's user base is acutely aware of the impact that unwise consumption patterns has on our planet and urges WeWork to take responsibility for its operations now.

I honestly never thought we would reach this level of momentum so quickly but here we are and it is actually kind of wild to watch this happen. Seeing so many people jump on board makes me feel like maybe things are finally starting to shift in the right direction because honestly the amount of waste piling up is just completely unacceptable.

This is a great initiative that we wanted to start at our own location in DC as we are appalled to watch people use a cup for 20 seconds or a few hours and throw it away. Please note that compostable cups and cutlery may not be a good option either as most of this goes to landfill anyway when poorly sorted and DC city recycling doesn't sort compostable plastics from recyclable plastics. Best, most responsible option: non-disposable!
An organisation priding itself to be "creating environments that increase productivity, innovation, and collaboration" it should pride itself do this in a sustainable manner.
Single use plastic mugs are unnecessary. The option to purchase branded bottles or bring your own would work if glasses are not viable.
Yeah! We all can do better! I use by bottle water most of the time... but glasses are more stylish and eco-friendly
Honestly there are SO MANY areas that WeWork could reduce the amount of wastage. Paper plates, plastic EVERYWHERE, it honestly makes me so angry.

The amount of plastic waste by wework is disgraceful, I would expect more from a company that prides itself on being at the forefront of innovation in work spaces
