The Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S.311/H.R.503) is legislation that sits before the 110th Congress that will outlaw the slaughter of our American horses for human consumption overseas and the transport of our horses bound for slaughter in Mexico and Canada for the SOLE purpose of human consumption over seas Over 100,000 horses were slaughtered in America in 2006 The transportation of horses to slaughter is sometimes far more brutal that the slaughter itself. OUR horses are loaded into cattle trucks that prevent them from standing up straight and travel w/out food or water for over 24 hours! Many of the horses arrive injured or dead already. Most of the time slaughter is like torture for our poor horses. The captive bolt gun, designed for cattle, is used. Horses are flight animals, they can sense fear once they are loaded in the kill box, they move around trying to get out of the way of the gun and end up getting getting severly injured instead of killed. They are then strung up by one leg to bleed out before they are slaughtered. This my friends disgusts me. Pro slaughter folks want you to believe that the horses are old and in surplus. These are healthy horses that are wanted for human consumption overseas. Please contact your Representative and Senators and urge them to co-sponsor The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.
