This is a petition for an 18 hole disc golf course,to be established somewhere on the south/southeast side of Overton Park  OR at the site where Libertyland used to be, in Midtown Memphis TN.
Disc golf is rapidly becoming one of the most popular sports in the nation. Essentially, it's the same game as golf, only it's played with discs which are similar to frisbees. Just like golf, the object is to get from the tee area to the goal (the "goal" is a basket with hanging metal chains that "catch" the disc) in as few strokes,or throws, as possible. Disc golf is a super fun and healthy activity for all age groups/genders/walks of life.  Most courses are free to play and generally enhance the land upon which they are created by attracting people to utilize the space in a positive, fun and healthy way. A course at Overton Park or old Libertyland would encourage people to be outside, in nature, getting EXERCISE !!
Building a disc golf course has a very low impact on the natural space where it is built. Also the disc golf community is generally very loyal to environmentalism and contains many who are willing to volunteer their time for upkeep. Keeping the course clean and manicuring the fairways etc would be a GREAT way to keep out unwanted privet and keep trash off of the ground. This would also be a great way to eliminate areas of "questionable" activity by occupying the space for legitimate reasons!
Shelby Farms, Shelby Forest and Johnson Rd. Park have had very successful disc golf courses for years now. There's just no reason why Midtown Memphis shouldn't have a course!!! There is a lot of  information about disc golf and creating disc golf courses online.  Here is a great place to start- an introduction to disc golf from the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association)= http://www.pdga.com/introduction and more info on course development: http://www.pdga.com/course-development
