For those of you unaware of the ban, the city of Welland has outlawed campfires in your backyard. There are no exceptions to the rules despite many of us having both cooperative neighbours and large lots. The city has ruled a blanket by-law that does not discriminate neighbourhoods, streets or sections of land.
The Tribune seems to have the inside scoop on this story which can be found here.

(Many thanks to Maryanne Firth for writing the article, but I would like to point out this site as well : http://www.city.welland.on.ca/Fire/FireStats.asp . You'll notice that "Open-Air Burning" was actually the cause of 117 calls in 2010 and not the stated 140.)
We are approaching five hundred signatures which will serve as the primary evidence when I formalize our request for a review of this by-law. Please direct others to this page now so we arrive at the city council office with a complete mandate.

We are approaching the one hundred signature mark which serves as the threshold for my formal request to the city council. Please direct this link to residents who share our concern to ensure we present a unified position during the scheduled hearing.

This is ridiculous. I have a huge backyard and we have never had a problem with the neighbors. Let us enjoy our own property.

Total overreach by the city. We have fire pits for a reason. Common sense is totally gone here.

117 calls vs 140. Numbers dont lie and even those are probably exaggerated by people who just hate having fires around. Fix this.

Living in Welland should mean being able to have a fire pit on a summer night. Keep your hands off our backyards!

Used to love having the family over for marshmallows. Now the city wants to stop that too? Leave us alone.
