Westlake Residents Against Absentee Owner Rooming Houses and Paved Yards

No front yard paving. It will "uglify" our neighborhood as it has already been done in other parts of D.C. Issue residential parking permits to help with the parking problem.

Ridiculous situation.

Against absentee owners... Muliti family, rooming / boarding houses..

We now have people parking on their lawns. Too many cars and no body uses the garages to park. We have several homes on Longview where folks have 4 or more cars. This is totally out of control.

Street parking is getting more difficult in front of my own home. It's obvious homes in our neighborhood are renting out to multiple people. NO to paving!

Please don't make us regret making our first home purchase in this area.

There are several houses that rent out rooms on my block and have 4-6 tenants each. Street parking is a major problem and these tenants park on the front lawns. Throw rubbish on the street from their cars.

A glut of cars in neighborhoods because Absentee Owners converting their property into "rooming houses" is a nuisance. Converting the property should be unlawful.

No paving!

Too many illegal "in law" units or extensions that are being rented out, causing each house to have too many cars and in turn creating parking problems at all neighborhoods.

Do not destroy my Olympic neighborhood with front yard paving. Instead, stop absentee owners from converting single family homes to rent by the room and rent by the bed rooming houses. Do not allow additions to increase sq footage by more than 50%, do not allow single family homes to be converted to 3+ apartments, enforce the requirement that garages are for parking not for conversion to living space without permits and inspection. In no case should a single family home have 3 kitchens!! Enforce requirement that ADU requires owner occupancy and only one ADU per home.

Paving front yards is putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. The wound is absentee owner operated rooming houses in single family homes. Do not destroy our neighborhood with front yard paving which will create even more rooming houses.

I've been living in this area for more than20 years. I 'm agreed with every word in this petition.

Hi, Darren, It appears you have not reviewed the information we have sent out. We are thoroughly familiar with the ADU legislation and we whole-heartedly support it--that is clearly stated in our petition! We have also made it CRYSTAL CLEAR that we want to have a cooperative relationship with the City and have had private, individual meetings with several of the council members to assure them that we do not want an adversarial relationship. San Francisco is requiring AirBNB to report all transactions directly to the City and pay hotel tax (14%). Daly City is looking at doing the same thing. We've had very cordial and constructive meetings with several City Departments.

Hi, Christopher, You are exactly right and isn't that what our petitions are doing? We want to stop the invasion of the neighborhoods until we have a discussion. Right now the Absentee Landlords are out of control. There are no code requirements that limit the number of people that can be stuffed into the houses. "Hacknsleep" was built as a 9 bedroom, 5 bathroom single family, owner occupied house about 4 years ago (I looked at the permit earlier this week, I am in the construction industry, 41 years). Go to their website www.hacknsleep.com They are under a code enforcement now which requires the removal of 2 illegal kitchens. NOTHING is being done to address the 27 beds. They have a business license. We want to have the brakes put on this craziness until we can "discuss and vote on" what these carpetbaggers are doing to our community. There has been no discussion or vote to let them ravage our neighborhoods. Our petitions are to put a halt on this circus and let the Community have its say over our destiny. Right now the only folks who have a say are these investors from out of town. That isn't right, is it?! Please sign the petitions and come to the City Council Meeting Monday, Sept 11, when we present a bunch of hair-raising facts to the Council. When you hear something you like, applaud.
