Westlake Residents Against Absentee Owner Rooming Houses and Paved Yards

I am vehemently against allowing DC homeowners to pave their front yards, for extra parking or any other reason. Having lived in the Sunset District of San Francisco, I have seen the destruction of neighborhoods with overparking on cemented front yards, sidewalks and side yards. It has caused the loss of property values by reducing the quality of life by the loss of plant life and greenery. It increased stress on the environment by replacing of green space with cement. While green space absorbs rainwater runoff, cement allows for runoff of water into our burdening sewer lines and storm drains. Whole neigjborhoods became concrete jungles. Please do not allow this to happen to Daly City. While I recognize the problem of lack of parking, I strongly suggest you address the CAUSE of the issue rather than destroy our neighborhoods. Permitting front yards to be covered with concrete is an easy fix but IT IS NOT A GOOD FIX. IT'S THE WORST FIX!!

I agree with this petition, and I see no need to be anonymous. I am a Realtor in S.F. Life is too short to not be open about your beliefs, regardless.

I am in favor of preserving our neighborhoods but being a homeowner who HAS an approved accessory dwelling unit (1bedroom/1bathroom) I have to say that my home does not change the look of our street. Who wrote this petition? Did anyone talk to City Hall before whipping this up and getting incorrect info out there? You have strong concerns but THINK before opening your mouth or council will see you are just rocking the boat with nonsense. First off all our city HAS to allow the new ADU/JADU as part of state law. Don't like it? Well the fact is we have too many people coming into our country and then our city, like one guy says we need to build a wall. However I digress, your hype about ADU/JADU is wrong! The new law and city REQUIRE that the owner LIVES AT THE PROPERTY and it is a recorded deed restriction, and you can only have ONE not both or multiples of either, just one. Next as a property owner who rents out a room or a unit I have to pay an annual rental license tax which is 1% of my annual rent I think is the calculation. YES I get a lot of money for my unit ($1,100) because that is what the market fetches. The part about paving is not mandatory, I have a lush green lawn and will not give that up! The idea was to allow over paving so we could get cars off the street. One police officer told me that it IS in fact against the law to block your own driveway. I do not like the idea my neighbor will park his 3-4 cars across his front yard but if it means my friends who come to visit can have a slight chance to park near by then okay. Besides most my neighbors buy culture do not take care of their lawns anyway. When we applied for the ADU the city staff was really helpful and it was done and final (with a building permit) by April. AirBNB is here to stay folks accept it, I do not approve of it but too many cities have signed on, you have a right to it and those rights cannot be infringed upon. Talk to city staff, they are good people, they are j

This should apply to all of Daly City, not just west of I-280.

No paving lawns Stop using houses as multi use residence. Firetraps are what they should be called. These so called landlords are making illegal rooms with no emergency exits. Stop it before someone dies.

this is a suburban family neighborhood, not a dirty urban crawl, let the families live in peace not pavement

Having five separate tenants in a single family home should not be allowed. The parking is one thing, but the influx of different people every few months is unsettling in a family neighborhood.

58 year resident and how horrible it has gotten!! We need bodies from the City to start enforcing! All the Westlake front lawns and palm trees from years back was enforced but the Assoc. was then voted out!
