YMCA privacy and safety

We have had a YMCA membership in the past, and would consider it again, but ONLY if the locker rooms keep the sexes separate. Please do not jeopardize the safety of your members.

We have had a Y membership in the past and have considered joining again. However, if the rights of a few trump the privacy and innocence of the majority (especially children - who have no voice), then we would not join. I always thought YMCA stood for Young Men's Christian Association. I don't see anything Christian about exposing children to the genitalia of the opposite sex all in the name of political correctness! If the YMCA was an adult only facility, this policy would only be poor. With children present, it is dangerous! Who determines whether or not someone who identifies as a transgender person isn't just a pedophile looking for children? The bottom line is neither my children nor myself are safe in a facility with mixed gender dressing Please reconsider this policy. Common sense should indicate that this is poor policy and not in the best interest of many.

We participate in Y activities in Eagan. Please keep the sexes separate or we will have to withdraw.

I would absolutely never consider a membership or use of these facilities if locker rooms are NOT kept men's and women's.

We have always respected the YMCA for its care for the community. Now I cannot trust it as a safe place for my children.

Please no sharing of locker rooms between genders. It is not fair to those who do not feel comfortable with it and it should not be forced upon us if we are the ones paying for the membership.

We are thinking of joining a gym in the WSP area, but would not join one that had such a policy.

I was seriously thinking of joining but have heard about this and will definitely not join now.

I love the Y but this will cause me to withdraw my membership due to feeling uncomfortable in bringing my family into this environment.

Please protect the rights of people who do know their gender and do not want myself or my young girls seeing male genitalia

As a former West St. Paul resident, I am outraged by this action by the West St. Paul YMCA, and will not be doing business with this YMCA or any YMCA until this policy is changed. I will also request friends and family members to do the same.

This defines common sense and common decency - what more can be said.

We are not members but have considered joining the Y for our children and there is NO WAY we would join if there are transgender locker rooms!

I have been a life-long supporter of the YMCA in Ohio, where I grew up; in Michigan, where I attended a YMCA camp for many years as a child; and in West St. Paul, where I have lived for more than a decade. However, this decision will make me seriously consider cutting my relationship with the YMCA. Not only does it reflect poor judgment, it's poor policy. Please show some courage, YMCA Management!

This is wrong. What about our rights and privacy? I am not interested in someone with the opposite genitalia exposing themselves to me our my children. Why should children see that at such a young age? I saw a person who fits this description at the West St. Paul YMCA pool this past summer and the way "she" was staring at my children by the pool was seriously disturbing. Made me question "her" claim. I don't want that person in our locker room staring at them there too, or even worse. What's to stop people from claiming this in order to gain access to women and children in the locker room? This seriously jeopardizes the safety of our families. How is this family friendly? If even one person is hurt by this policy, is it worth it to you? Just for the sake of appeasing the agenda of a few? What about the rights of the majority? There has to be a better solution that respects ALL of us. I find the YMCA's current policy on this matter offensive to me and my family. I had been planning to re-join the Y but will not be doing so if this is the case.

We have enjoyed the West St. Paul YMCA because we like the pool, however if I would need to be concerned about bringing my children into a locker room with mixed genders - regardless of how someone else identifies themself - I would not return.

Please reconsider allowing individuals to choose whichever restroom based on their gender identity.

We cancelled our membership in September because of this issue. We would be happy to hear if the policy is changing.

What's the point of private lockerooms/bathrooms if there are mixed biology parts exposed. Let's have some common sense.
