As a retired member of Welwyn St Mary's teaching staff and a current grandparent of a Tenterfield pupil I have for many years felt concern for the safety of our children near the main London Road and would welcome anything that can be done to lessen the road dangers near both schools.

Fully agree with the staff and governors concerns. Safety of the children should be an overriding consideration.

Something needs to be done to make the area safer for kids and parents walking to school and crossing the road. Currently there are some drivers who act irresponsibly and dangerously mount the pavements in their rush to try and get through. I don't necessarily think speed calming is the answer. Maybe barriers beside the pavement outside the school and zebra crossings (without traffic lights) forcing the cars to stop more frequently at busy times thus automatically slowing traffic.

My child goes to Tenterfield and cars constantly speed up and down this road. It is an accident waiting to happen if nothing is done about it.

I live nearby and traffic as well as inconsiderate parking is a major problem. My sons attended Tenterfield and Welwyn St Mary's and one of them was injured (fortunately not seriously) when stepping onto the Zebra crossing. The driver didn't even stop. The traffic has increased since then, mainly due to property development in the village.

I am deeply concerned about the speed of traffic on London Road close to the school. There have been far too many near misses and a few children have been hit by cars in the past.

Not only am I concerned about the speed of traffic but also the parking of cars along the side of the road. It causes chaos at peak times and causes people to take risks. At some points along the road you cannot see the oncoming traffic, until it is too late.

The safety of the children is paramount. Although many drivers are considerate, some become so frustrated I have seen them mount the pavement and drive along the pavement between Tenterfield and the safety barrier because of the grid lock. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Please make changes before there is a tragedy.

Traffic calming during school / nursery drop off times only?

My Daughter attends Welwyn St Mary's and I find the traffic conditions unacceptable near a school... I regularly see speeding cars and no consideration for other drivers especially north of the pedestrian crossing where's cars park on one side of the road blocking the view of the fast oncoming traffic.

Please not speed bumps. Not very effective against larger vehicles (eg 4X4s etc) and damages undercarriage and suspension of many cars even at slow speeds. Although unpopular, I would agree with a speed camera at both ends.

Being a local resident, I see the number of vehicles driving to the speed limit and more. The vehicles parked on London road may prevent vehicles from driving over this limit but they also obscure the view.

The speed at which the cars drive near the school is very worrying.
