On March 19, Sr. Joyce, Sr. Geri and Sr. Janet met with Fr. Stack and the Archdiocese Supt. of Schools and were told by Fr. Stack that, due to financial reasons, their services were no longer needed, they were to move out of the convent by June 30, and the Child Center is being "re-structured". Fr. Stack wishes to remove the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur from St. Jerome's COMPLETELY. These women have educated, nurtured, guided and instilled the Catholic faith in thousands of children in the 3-4 decades they have been with St. Jerome's. It is unconscionable that this action would be condoned by anyone. For hundreds of families in and around Hyattsville, the sisters ARE St. Jerome's. They have built and sustained the school and child center for years, yet now, for "financial reasons", they are being forced out of their homes and out of St. Jerome's. This petition is for all of the children, parents, educators, parishioners, alumni and friends of St. Jerome's to show our support for the sisters and, ultimately, to have this terrible decision reversed. Sr. Joyce, Sr. Geri, Sr. Janet, and all of the SND nuns have provided an immeasurable service to us for so long. I have often wondered how I could ever thank them for all they have done. Well, now we know. This is it. Do your part and help these amazing, wonderful, dedicated women to stay in their home and with St. Jerome's. To do nothing is not an option; it would be a disservice to the nuns and to the next generation of young people who need their leadership. We cannot imagine St. Jerome's without the Sisters of Notre Dame. The support of MANY would be lost if this heinous decision sees fruition. To get the attention of the powers-that-be, we need to find strength in numbers. So please sign this petition, get your friends and family to sign. Post comments. The time for supplication is now. With prayer and action, the sons and daughters of St. Jerome's can Save Our Sisters!
