SIGN UP TO SAVE WELLESBOURNE HORTICULTURAL RESEARCH STATION:
We call on Warwick University to reconsider and stop its plan to close the facility for Horticultural Research at Wellesbourne, known as Warwick(HRI). We ask them to follow the recent report of the Royal Society 'Reaping the Benefits' that recommends: "Universities should work with funding bodies to reverse the decline in subjects relevant to a sustainable intensification of food crop production, such as agronomy, plant physiology, pathology and general botany, soil science, environmental microbiology, weed science and entomology."

Reaching this point has been a long and draining process but your response keeps me going. It is difficult to look at these numbers and not feel the weight of what we are fighting against. We are not turning back yet.

This station has contributed much to the UK'S horticulture, at a modest cost. It shoud be kept alive and flourishing.

The world's vegetable growing regions will get too hot or wet to get decent yields from current varieties. Closing HRI now is an act of gross stupidity towards our successors. Do you love your children and grandchildren, or are so myopic you can only see the current priorities of your balance sheet? Let HRl feed our future.

So much expertise in the UK in horiculture lost. Many friends of mine were at Silsoe Research Institute. Many no longer working in science.

My husband worked there for years. Such a waste of talent and data. Warwick should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen.

What an absolute disgrace. We are throwing away decades of research just to build more houses. Who is going to feed us in twenty years? Keep the labs open.

Short sighted and pathetic.
