Fran Palama and Paul Tisdale of Well-Fit Studios in Bromsgrove have spent most of this year trying to find larger premises to expand into in Bromsgrove. Each time they find somewhere suitable they have applied to Bromsgrove Council for permission to convert the premises into a larger pay as you go gym with better facilities for their existing and new customers but each time they have been refused. They have worked with various Council staff amending and resubmitting plans when requested and have done everything asked of them but yesterday they found out yet again they had been turned down. The main sticking point appears to be the Council's reluctance to grant Change of Use to allow empty industrial units to be changed into gym facilities. If you look around Bromsgrove you will find row up on row of vacant units with To Let signs up - these units are sitting empty with no industry wanting to use them so it seems completely bizarre that Well-Fit can't utilise this space. We are inundated with numerous fast food outlets with the Council recently granting yet more planning permissions for even more such outlets....yet here we are facing rapidly rising levels of obesity and diseases exacerbated by a lifestyle high on fatty food but low on great nutrition and exercise.
