It has come to my attention that the welfare or government assistance programs have become severely outdated. One of the major issues being that it seems to have become a "all or nothing" approach. Designed to assist those looking to actively play a beneficial role in bettering themselves, it has now had a stigma attached as a lazy way of life. Through much dispute it is time to make a change in our current system and adapt to the new age. It is time we enforce stricter regulations on recipients and force those receiving assistance to earn such. This includes changing the system into a reward approach, instead of rewarding those who pay no contribution to the welfare of our great nation, by rewarding those who work for a living and only need minimal support or assistance we would save a tremendous amount of money. As a New Hampshire resident I also feel it is in our best interest to climb onto the bandwagon of states enforcing the passing of a drug test to gain access to benefits would force those recipients to hold themselves accountable and wean out those who don't need the assistance. There are so many other changes we could make to minimize the abuse of a wonderful system designated to help those in need, we just need to speak out and determine what we as a state wish to accomplish in this.
Finally someone said it. My neighbor has been sitting on the couch for 3 years while I work 50 hours a week to pay for their lifestyle. Drug test everyone and get them back to work.
