After an extremely successful Refugee Awareness Week, where we received huge amounts of support from communities, students, staff, Councillors, MPs and charities from across Leeds, we are requesting the help of one more person; Vice Chancellor for Leeds Beckett University, Peter Slee.

We are asking Leeds Beckett University to support the local community, students, the Students Union, staff and vulnerable people to use their vast capacity in research and resources to support refugees and people seeking asylum.

As a display of support for the hard work students have put into creating Refugee Awareness Week we are asking that Vice Chancellor, Peter Slee, responds to our petition and meets our requests to make Leeds Beckett University a welcoming and supportive place.

We are asking that:

1) The University commits to providing at least one full time bursary per year to a refugee or person seeking asylum in the UK.

2) The library be re-opened to the public 24 hours a day. (Education is a right not a privilege!)

3) An allocation of funding is provided to assist student led research into issues relating to refugees and people seeking asylum.

We, the students, staff and supporters of Leeds Beckett believe we can be a leading university in doing what is morally right and encourage others to join us. The benefits for students, the community and vulnerable people will be immense and this can all be achieved simply and succinctly with collaboration from the Vice Chancellor.

Please comment your relation to the University/petition eg; student, staff member, community member, charity ect...

Thanks for making your voice heard!
