Let’s make the Moab pool accessible to parents of young kids of all income levels and work arrangements by bringing baby and toddler swim time, or “Parents and Tots,” to the regular weekend schedule!

On weekdays, Moab's public pool offers time for parents with kids 0-5 during lap swim to play in the kids’ pool, providing a safe time dedicated to the smallest children. This time is separate from open swim for all ages, which can be dangerous for babies and toddlers with older kids running, splashing and jumping in the pool unaware of smaller kids who don’t know how to hold their breath yet or are nervous or frightened in the water.

However, this separate time isn't currently offered on the weekend.

This policy unwittingly discriminates against families in which both parents work during the week. Open swim is busier on the weekend, and potentially even more hazardous to babies and toddlers. Working families with small children should be able to enjoy the pool during a safe time, and families where one parent works during the week and the other is the primary caregiver should be able to enjoy the pool as a family as well during a time dedicated to small children. This should not be a privilege only for families who are available during the week.

A positive experience with the water at a young age can shape a child’s relationship with swimming and water for a lifetime. Let’s make the pool a positive experience for the children of ALL families and bring Parent and Tot time to the weekends!
