As an educator it is my duty of care and my legal obligation to report any situation of child abuse made known to me in Australia - why is this mandatory reporting not an obligation for educators (as well as health and medical practitioners working with children in detention? Shame on you Abbott government policy makers!

Those who are vulnerable have a right to be protected. In particular, having children in detention is a situation in which they are already suffering from systemic neglect but to add to the injury, they are at high risk of abuse. In this situation, whether it be within our borders or without, I have a duty of care, not just as a doctor, but as a human being. I will not be silenced on this.

It is outrageous that the reporting of abuse and horrific living conditions, lack of access to medical treatment in detention centres can lead to imprisonment. Your Government will ultimately be brought to account for these crimes against humanity.

I am a Nurse. I work with children and families. I love my job and a big part of it is promoting health and well being, monitoring growth and development and referring early for support and assistance with any issues. I am mandated as is every nurse to report when a child's health or welfare is endangered. I am horrified at the attitude of the Abbott Government towards children and families in detention and appalled at the Border Force Act. Australia is speaking up, more fool the politician who doesn't listen.

what logic; if I don't report child abuse in society its a crime and if I work in a detention centre and report child abuse its a crime....makes about as much sense as the rest of your policies
