Claiming for no drafting on Ironman for all the athletes !
Every year after Kona, the major events our sport, the same debate emerges : the density of athletes makes the race without drafting impossible.
Drafting generates frustration among participations, spoil Ironman's image and the pleasure of the true athletes. The economy of the sport could be affected as well : why should we invest in more aero equipment if it turns into a crit race ? Our sport loses more and more the original sense of the beginning in 1978: an individual effort and a fair race.
Solutions could be studied: wave starts, rolling starts, a more difficult loop for the first miles, 20 meters for the professional category, more referees, a strict refereeing control, undercover referees on the bike course, etc.
Because we love Ironman, we ask the WTC to take decisions and start real actions to allow a FAIR race for all the athletes.

Chaque année après Kona, la vitrine de notre sport, le même débat ressurgit : la densité d’athlètes rend impossible une course sans drafting.
Le drafting génère de la frustration après les courses, les photos de pelotons abiment l’image d’Ironman et le plaisir des athlètes intègres. L’économie du sport pourrait être affectée également, pourquoi investir dans du matériel plus aéro si la course tourne au critérium ? Notre sport perd année après année l’esprit originel de 1978 : un effort solitaire, une course équitable.
Des solutions pourraient être étudiées : Départ par vagues, Rolling start, boucle plus difficile les premiers kilomètres, 20 mètres pour la catégorie pro, plus d’arbitres, un arbitrage plus sévère, des arbitres infiltrés en vélo, etc.
Parce ce que nous aimons Ironman, nous demandons à la WTC de prendre des décisions et de lancer de réelles actions qui permettront une VRAIE course pour tous les participants.

I have been reading through all your messages about the packs on the course and it honestly makes my blood boil because we just want to race our own race. I am currently trying to map out a clear list of potential rule adjustments to send to the organizers but between the training rides and work it is taking a while to get everything organized correctly.

Seeing this gain this much momentum is honestly wild because for a long time it felt like I was just shouting into the void about these bike packs. I keep reading through your thoughts on the course and it validates everything I felt about how we need to protect the integrity of the individual effort or this whole thing just turns into a massive group ride.

You draft you die... thanks for the Spirit ! Even if .... I never see Kona! I lost always my drive on the bike leg, struggling to keep my pace, and seeing group riders passing me with the smile...
No proud or self respect if cheating. If we all ride With proximity sensor alarming loudly around, this can improve the behavior of all...and warn referees
I promised myself not to participate any more to the IM in Kona until the WTC takes strong decision to allow people to have a fair race Dominique
agree 100%. the focus should be on the integrity of the sport, not maximizing profits (putting more and more athletes onto the start line so the bike course is packed, but if a race does not sell thousands of entries it gets cancelled - eg. IM Maastricht...)

Pourquoi permettre le drafting dans un sport ou on cherche le déplacement de soi. Le triathlon est un sport d'équipe à l'entraînement et l'encouragement seulement.

About to do my 5th IM race - in Austria this year. The situation in Italy in 2017 was so frustrating, please do what you can to reward the people who love our sport and don't cheat. We pay a lot of money to IM for a special experience, if you do not manage the situation, it will lose it's specialness. Thank you.
