My favorite vacations have been in vacation rentals. They suit our lifestyle and travel style far better than hotels. I value having this choice and feel Monterey County should offer travelers the option of vacation rentals with no minimum stay requirements.

If a vacation rental ordinance system can work successfully for Pacific Grove, which is as beautiful and tourism driven as any city on the peninsula, it can surely work for all of Monterey County.

As someone who has enjoyed beautiful Carmel as a weekend property renter, I am opposed to the present monthly say requirement that has been imposed on the property owners. the restriction as it presently stands seems arbitrary at best and mean-spirited at worst. Very few people have the flexibility, money nor desire frankly to stay in one place, beautiful as it may be, for a minimum stay of one month. Prior to the 30-day rule, we would routinely rent comfortable, spacious homes in Carmel for, say, a long weekend and do so with the luxury of having our mother, family dog or another couple enjoy the experience with us. A monthly stay requirement effectively makes this scenario an impossibility for us and doubtless for many others. Perhaps it was a few irresponsible short-term renters that created the perceived need for this rule. But we, as an older couple, should not be lumped into this category as we fully respect the privilege of being guests in someone's home. During our stays, we consider ourselves temporary custodians of the owners and once our rental is over, we leave the property as pristine as we found it. Finally, we LOVE Carmel/Monterey and think it's one of God's most inspired creations. And when we have the opportunity to spend a few days there in a lovely rental property, we feel we experience what it is truly like to live in Carmel/Monterey in all its splendor. We understand that the monthly minimum stay rule is an attempt to preserve the splendor of Carmel/Monterey, but we feel that, ultimately, the decision to rent to whom and for how long should reside solely with the property owner. Yes, please adopt a simple ordinance for all of Monterey County that allows responsible home owners to rent all or part of their properties to travelers on a short-term basis. And something simple like a "three strikes, you're out" approach to deal with complaints seems like a very reasonable way to address neighborhood concerns.

Monterey County has been presented with Ordinances from a handful of California county's that are successful in their scope and function. There is no reason for Monterey County to reinvent the wheel. Supervisors ~ please adopt a reasonable and legal short term vacation rental ordinance for us ASAP.

What a horrible thing to be a lawbreaker for renting to families that visit the area to have a good time and usually spend money doing so.

My family has owned this property since 1970. We have used it personally and as a vacation rental all that time and have never once had a complaint from neighbors. We rent responsibly, take very good care of the house and property. Our renters return year after year (most of them). They contribute to the local economy, as do we. As out of state owners, I think Carmel should welcome this type of tourist who tend to be older and have more disposable income for travel.

Let's keep Monterey County available and affordable for visiitors from all over the world to enjoy (walk, shop, eat) on a normal vacation schedule of a week to two weeks.

We have been renting our home for decades to visitors all over the world. Please allow me to continue.
Please pass a strong but simple vacation rental ordinance that makes it easy for property owners to comply. Many visitors would rather stay in a home than a hotel so it's important to ensure this option is available, otherwise those visitors will spend their travel, dining and entertainment dollars elsewhere.
