The USU Board officially approved our society today. We finally have our space to celebrate Korean culture together.

Final supporters
Here's why:
The University of Sydney (USYD) currently has 3 Korean societies. All 3 are mainly for Korean students. So, welack a Korean cultural appreciation society that actively seeks and welcomes non-Koreans.
Recently, the University of Sydney Union (USU) Board has decided that 3 Korean societies is enough, and is opposed to approving the establishment of any more Korean societies. We have tried merging our society into the other Korean societies before. However, it is simply NOT feasible. It did not work. The aims of each of these societies and KCAS are all conflicting with each other. Non-Koreans simply feel out of place in a completely Korean society that's mainly for Koreans.
Hence, we want to set up KCAS for everyone at USYD, including non-Koreans, to indulge in, share and celebrate the love of Korean culture and all things Korean.
And here's where you come in! We need STRONG evidence to persuade the USU Board, to change their minds, to enlighten them on the strong demand for a Korean cultural appreciation society that caters to everyone, including non-Koreans. We need YOUR support! If you have an interest in Korean culture, K-pop, K-dramas, even Korean TV programmes like Running Man (yes, we will hold Running Man events!), or anything Korean at all, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

i literally just want to watch running man with other people. why is that such a big deal for the usu to approve???
I really hope this happens because I started learning korean last year and would love to practice with others without feeling like a total outsider.
The existing clubs are way too cliquey and you feel like an intruder if you dont speak the language. We need something more inclusive for us non-koreans.
Yes pleasse!! I love kpop and k-dramas but its hard to find people to talk to about it on campus. This would be so fun.
definitely need this. usyd needs more variety in the clubs!

I would love for this society to be a thing so I can meet people who enjoy the same interests as me, allowing me to feel more comfortable at USYD
