If Travellers have similar statistics to other marginalized groups, such as Aboriginals in Australia, then maybe it's because we have marginalized them, like white people in Australia have done to Aboriginals. This is one of Ireland's last great shames. It's time for respect and recognition for all.

From a settled person with good Traveller friends, I ask ye to listen to what there asking and see just how simple it is to even reach out to our Travelling community, Why should my child's school friend have to grow up with the hatred and discrimination attached to them , Every Single person should be Equal, my child will grow up accepting each person has they come, why can't you? Help build bridges not walls!

I remember travelling people living near my small community of people living in tin shacks, old buses and railway carriages on the outskirts of Coventry after the war. I thought the camp looked much nicer and jollier than where we were and would shyly watch the traveller children playing.

I'm Irish to the back bone. To all the people of the settled community who told me that we were not wanted in Ireland and go back to where we came from. Guess what? I'm a native of this wonderful country we call Ireland.

We should hang our heads in shame as a nation for the discriminatory and nakedly racist manner in which this part of our own citizenry have been treated down through the years. I am delighted that the EU have launched an investigation into Ireland's possible breaches of EU rules on racial equality towards the Travelling Community. Thank God an international body is watching our guilty behaviour towards these people
