These wonderful people didn't give up on me when so many other did. They belong in the program they built right at Dekalb.

Class of 1995 and while I wasn’t a member in the music department so many of my friends were. You fostered Baron pride through musical excellence.

Known them all my life. My sister was in show choir all four years and I was in choir as well! It’s sad how they are being shoved aside like the last 35 years mean nothing! Music helps so many on so many levels! Me personally music has helped me through a lot of challenging times in my life! They deserve better for all the good they have done for this community and for all the students they have impacted!

I have known Shelly and Kent for many years. They are two of the greatest people I know and have impacted the lives of not only students but fellow show choir directors and others in our world. It is very sad to know that they do not get to decide when they are ready to leave their profession. I am very sorry for the up and coming students that do not have the opportunity to share in the wealth of knowledge and experience of these two people. I think the former students of Shelley are a testament to the wonderful teacher she has been. Thanks for all you have meant to this profession!

After my alma mater, Shelley was the FIRST director to hire me as a show choir arranger. I was fresh out of college and green as grass, but she took a chance and believed in me. That was 22 years ago, and somehow I'm still at it. THANK YOU, Shelley!

I’m a Show Producer in Branson, Missouri. Through the years we have hired several DeKalb graduates who learned theatre and life skills from the Johnsons. I’ve personally never met them, however their reputation supersedes them in our entertainment town of 9M visitors. When you see their names as references on a resume, you know you’re hiring a winner. I encourage you to rethink this decision. MP

DeKalb School System is making a huge mistake by trying to undermine the integrity of Shelley and Kent Johnson. Of course it is easy to come up with some random excuse for getting rid of people in your employment. It took you 30 + years to do it. You should be ashamed.

Shelley and Kent Johnson are show choir legends and pioneers. As a student in show choir, and now as a director, I have always respected and have been inspired by the shows and caliber of the Dekalb show choir program. As shown by these comments, know that your influence goes far beyond the classroom. It lives on in all of the lives you have touched and shaped for the better. Beavercreek Friends stands with Shelley and Kent!
