As a former member of another area show choir, I always looked forward to DeKalb's invitational and seeing all of the hard work that the Johnsons put into making the shows and the experience extraordinary. The DeKalb choir program is a force to be reckoned with in large part because of these two! It seems a real shame to dismiss them.

These two have not only impacted students through show choir,but the community I seriously think that is wrong to pull them away from this they have made it successful for 34 years I could go on and on but just know Kent and Shelly Johnson the community loves and supports you and will back you 100%.

I am disappointed and do Not approve of Shelly Johnson being relegated to an elementary music teacher - no disrespect to those staff but Shelly has 35 + yrs with only excellence ‼️ The Superintendent must reverse his decision‼️

1998 Graduate. Was in concert choir. Countless friends of mine were in showchoir. Program was/is amazing! Shelley and Kent have done a great job. This news is very saddening.

1996 DHS grad - while I never participated in Chior, or the arts in general, several of the people I still call friends, did. Today, my daughter is a show chior member in our district. This news has devastated them! She simply said, "they have the best invitational." As a parent, that shows the genuine care a leader has for not only their own students but for those they welcome in. Thank you for building a legacy that transcends the walls of DeKalb and reaches far greater than you know.

They changed my life and gave me the confidence to live my life how i want to. Dekalb is disgracing its Arts programs and effectively ending its Show Choir presence for the foreseeable future.

Like many first year teachers, I was lost and looking for heroes. Everyone that I respected toId me to study Dekalb if I wanted to know how to 'do it right.'
This whole thing sounds like a solution without a problem.
Hell hath no fury like an insecure administrator trying to flex.
