I’ve known Kent Johnson my entire life, and Shelley from the time they were married. What an incredibly talented couple! They’ve dedicated their lives to this community and brought national recognition to our students. Shelley has positively changed the lives of thousands of students over the years. What an outrage to assign her to an elementary school when she has proven herself year after year with outstanding and amazing success. My mother is a tax payer in this county and questions Mr. Teders’ ability to lead. We have family members who’ve been students under Shelley and flourished under her instruction. We have also gone to church with them all through the years, and are leaders in the church. They were in church no matter how long school activities kept them awake on Saturday nights. I’ve been away from this community where I grew up for many years. However, as a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force, I know leadership when I see it. Shelley is a leader. I seriously question the motive behind her reassignment. We may never know what is happening in the closed-door meetings of the school board because this is a personnel action, but it looks like there is more to this action than meets the eye. The elected officials need to do what is right. I don’t know this principal, but am not impressed with what I see. My hope is that Shelley be asked to stay in current position. The community does not understand this at all.

I went to SCA for over 20 years. I am Heidelberg proud. One year, due to a conflict, I had to go to the Illinois camp. I was a fish out of water and they invited me to their lunch table. I hope a new door if opportunity opens for you...

They built this program, and made a huge impact on the lives of hundreds. High school was such a hard time for many, and they were my personal safe haven. Shelley and Kent made it so much easier to get through some tough years. They were more than just running an award winning program... They brought you in to a family. I have many fond memories with my show choir family. I can’t say the same for my time spent in high school... I truly believe God put them there for us. I know they personally helped me get through.

DeKalb isn't making a smart move, they depend on show choir and show choir depends on Shelley and Kent.

I met a woman from Ohio. When I said where I was from, she gushed about the Johnsons, and said they were nationally the top recognized for their programs. That others were copying some of their methods because they were just that great. What will they think of our school now? They will probably never respect them again

Hard to find dedicated people such as this for such a long time. If educational concerns are lacking, is there an equal record of administrators working with teachers to accomplish goals for the whole school? I would guess quite a large number of these students were also involved in many other academic and extracurricular activities in the school. Respect and best wishes to all.

DeKalb needs to concentrate on all subjects EQUALLY. And, STOP worrying only about the sports, as they have been doing for at least 40 years!
