As an original member of Classic Connection *1987, I have felt and watched the impact of the Johnsons on the Dekalb community for over 30 years. Never have I seen a couple, one unpaid and just as invested, in a community as these two have been. I don't know exactly what is happening but I cannot imagine it is in the best interest of the students of DHS to have Shelley ( and Kent) removed from the High School choir program. How are her talents going to be best used at the elementary level? How can you possible replace these TWO people with one. I'm watching the outrage of the community over this from afar. Listen to what people are saying they want and serve your students well. My prayers are with all involved. It's very confusing as to how this decision helps anyone.

These two people Shelley and Kent Johnson and the show choir program helped to form the young man my son has become. He learned to set goals for himself, organize and prioritize activities. He made friends and become passionate about what he was doing, not a shy bone in his body anymore. He has become very outspoken about things he believes in. I don't take all the credit for this I believe Shelley and Kent Johnson helped make this happen for him.

What DeKalb administration has done is a travesty. I owe much of my personal and professional success to the Johnson's. Shelley was so much more than "just" a teacher. She was a mentor who empowered her students to take risks, but more importantly to believe in themselves. Shame on DeKalb.

These recent events are very troubling and no way to treat such a dedicated educator. Thank you Shelley and Kent! Your impact was profound beyond what you’ll likely ever know and wishing you all the best!

I have had children and grand children in Shelly and Kents programs. They have made such an impacted on their lives and talented and respectful people they have become. They never judge and can make such a difference in a young persons life.

I graduated in 2008 and I was only in Choir. The amount of time and passion Shelley and Kent put in choir and show choir was amazing. She helped me find my voice. Now that I have a kid, I hope they have the same opportunity. It’s going to be had to find someone with the same amount of passion and drive. Thank you Shelley and Kent for all you guys have done.

There is no match for the duo that are the Johnsons! They will never be able to replace them. I am forever grateful that I was able to have my time with them but sad to know that future barons will not have the same opportunity. Kent & Shelley are probably handling this with such grace because that is just who they are. We’re sending all of our love and support ❤️

They both have impacted me in so many ways. They helped me when I sick & always in the hospital, & also helping me get out of my comfort zone.

Kent and Shelley Johnson have changed lives. They taught me to be the best human I could be. They never showed anything but love for every person they came in contact with. I truly know how lucky I am to have been in the DeKalb Show choir Family.

This is so sad. You need to think about what you have done. Dekalb needs Shelley and Kent. They have so much love for all the kids. They are what so many kids need in there lives when they are you High School. Dedicated there lives to this and this is what you do.

Kent and Shelley deserve more than this treatment. Praying for their situation.
