being pregnant is a beautiful thing - never a disability. there is no reason uchicago cannot accommodate this request as lectures can easily be recorded or filmed and materials are already uploaded onto canvas. do better harris. Siri if you're reading this, please know that women @ uchicago stand with you <3

It’s unimaginable that a leading public policy school wouldn’t have a policy in place to accommodate a pregnant graduate student, especially considering equality should be at the premise of our work both now and in practice. Also perplexing give. the international composition of the student body. We must do better and adapt to the nuanced needs of our students in 2019!

It’s baffling to me that a policy school would not have a policy around this. Pregnancy is not a disability and there is no reason that in 2019, a student is unable to take a class remotely with a reasonable excuse. I support Siri and advocate for the university to let her take remote classes while she finishes her pregnancy with the support of her family.

It is the responsibility of the University of Chicago and Harris to accommodate women as much as possible as they pursue career advancement. Pregnancy inherently disproportionately impacts women's ability to pursue their passions and attain an equal salary. In fact, Harris students spent 30 minutes today in Stats II discussing this very problem. As a school that preaches inclusion and diversity, it would be completely hypocritical if it did not do everything in its power to help students like Siri. Siri is an inspiring, courageous and brilliant woman who deserves the University's support. As someone who came to Harris to study gender equity, I would be ashamed to know that the necessary steps were not taken.

Siri is an incredibly smart, well spoken, and driven woman. It is a privilege to be a part of the same Harris class as she is, and the University should do everything it can, within reason, to accommodate her and the needs of our other international students.

Work can easily be done via canvas if professors upload lecture materials and allow Siri to submit her homework via canvas. It is ridiculous that she can't take all of her spring classes remotely in this day and age.
