Fuego represents a vital element within our South Valley community, as well as within Albuquerque as a whole. There is nothing - absolutely nothing - controversial, much less inherently "wrong," about Mitch's endeavors. People who are coming out against the beautiful dream he is attempting to enact here are cloaking their envy and spite behind the word "gentrification," a move which does a monumental disservice, not only to Mitch (who deserves nothing but praise and encouragement for his efforts), but also to the concept of gentrification itself - a real thing and a genuine problem here in Albuquerque, for which no favors are done by abusing its application.

At Fuego wonderful imaginative works of art are created for the community, while students get a chance for a unique educational opportunity; we are fortunate to have this enriching school in Albuquerque and in the South Valley in particular. Long life to Fuego!

I’ve met Mitch. I like what he is doing. I stand behind it and find value in his venture. It’s a positive for the public, especially those close to its location. Accessibility. Sharing traditions, craftsmanship approaches, there will be many things to build upon.

I have lived on Riverside Drive in the South Valley for 24 years and have been involved in many political and community projects...Fuego is one of the best developments I’ve seen here in all these years, a place where creativity, social engagement and hands-in training can all happen within a diverse neighborhood for the good of the neighborhood. Fuego adds value and quality of life for the rest of us who live here and should be encouraged, endorsed, permitted and supported by those charged with guiding development in our neighborhood.
