Punishing Coach Young for protecting students would send the wrong message to your student body and our community. It would show everyone that breaking the rules pays. Coach Young was willing to sacrifice his personal safety and put himself between students and a deadly weapon, in my book he's a hero.
I also can't help but wonder how the parents who lost their child at a nearby intersection feel about the stance the school is currently taking.
Coach Young's peaceful confrontation and dedicated enforcement of the school's rules should be commended, not punished.

As a teacher who works the car line I can say that we see this type of entitled behavior on a regular basis. I've been honked at, yelled at, nearly run over, yeah we do it with a smile and patience. At the end of the day our number one goal is to see that each and every student arrives at school or is sent home from school safely. Not just the child of one parent, but for all!

@Mr. Morgan few people have the gumption to use seemingly abrasive methods like you did in confronting issues around the school. being courageous enough to firmly stand for what's in the best interests of your students is incredibly admirable, and it's exemplary of the bravery in management and pedagogy that teachers have learned to avoid completely out of an empirically valid fear of repercussions from PTOs and admins. however, by fearing that type of confrontation and action, you allow malicious people of all stripes to do as they please against the interests of the majority. although it may seem trivial, this attitude of cowardice, seen here on a small scale, is, on a larger scale, what validates and encourages good people to do nothing in the face of evil. you are setting an exceptional example for your students, and as a student of Dulles High School, I fully support no adverse action being taken against this teacher.
@rita you think people will sympathize with you because you were running late. in reality, that just makes you look more selfish. we all run late sometimes - being late doesn't make you exempt from rules put in place to protect other people's children, it just makes you negligent. you brazenly put yourself before other people and potentially endangered kids, and then expected the parents of those kids to sympathize with you. learn some humility. i would've jumped on your car too.

Teacher was protecting his kids! He didn’t know what this crazy lady who already ignored two people would have done. He is a hero.

She was in the wrong on multiple levels and he did his job, point blank. Fort Bend ISD should be celebrating this teacher for going the extra mile to protect students.

This teacher was doing his job keeping students safe. This woman repeatedly broke the rules. She is WRONG! If a student was injured you would be blaming him for not stopping her. She needs a ticket and he needs a medal.

If this teacher was doing his job to protect the children of the elementary school, then he is a hero and was doing his job. It sounds like this woman was trying to make her life easy by cutting through. She shouldn’t be doing that and endangering lives.

He acted well within the scope of his job in attempting to protect the students not only from this lady’s reckless driving but that of any other parent. It would be truly abhorrent if the district decides to fire this man based on his completely noble act.
