As a parent of 2 elementary and 1 high school student in the Houston area I support Mr Young. He just did what every other parent that follows the rules in place for our children’s safety wants to do! The drop off and pick up for FBISD and other surrounding ISDs in the Houston area are full of parents with a “me and mine” mentality. They disregard safety rules at the expense of other children’s safety! I have had my High Schooler almost ran over because a parent couldn’t be patient and follow the procedures and I fear for my younger children as I see daily parents picking their time over safety. Shame on this woman for not only thinking her children not being late and her time is worth more than safety of other children but for trying to publicly post and shame a teacher protecting students from her behavior. She was in the wrong! She needs to own up and not point the finger at someone else. She should be disciplined. The only thing this promotes in our society is that a parent have no regard for safety can triumph and not be held accountable. It also deters teachers from protecting our children! I would not want to be a teacher in today’s society. They are one of the most under appreciated professions that give numerous hours to a job that doesn’t adequately pay for the time, commitment and grief that comes along with the job!

I can’t believe that this lady thought she was a victim. She endangered the children at this school. Would the story have been different if a child or parent was walking in the area? Why does she think she has the right to break the rules when she see fit? I would hope that teachers at our school would take my child’s safety that seriously. If she would have just gotten away with it, what would she have done the next day when she overslept? And the next?

What is wrong with her??? I see things like this at my daughters school people don’t get in the line they drive up around it like everyone isn’t there for the same reason it’s unsafe & I applaud this teacher! We need more teachers like this who are willing to put our children’s safety first! This woman seems unaware that she’s the problem & I hope the school board supports the teacher & makes the parents understand their responsibility for these types of incidents!

This teacher should not face any kind of punishment or reprimanding. The parent carelessly bypass 2 sets of safety cones and 1 other teacher frantically waving to stop her so they could protect the children. This teacher felt the need to take extreme measures to stop a person that was carelessly bypassing all safety procedures And could have injured small elementary children

I dont think the teacher did anything wrong. He was protecting his kids and enforcing the rules. Which person in this altercation doesn't even belong at the elementary school? And then proceeds to ignore physical and verbal instruction because she is "late?"

This teacher was protecting the children and enforcing the rules of the school. The lady admitted she was cutting through the parking lot-isn’t that against the law to begin with?

This teacher showed he would protect our children no matter the cost. He should not be punished for his actions. If he would not have done anything the driver would continue to use the same path every time she was late. Which could lead to kids being injured. I thank the teacher for his action as they may have just saved a child’s life.

The teacher was right. Rita needs to improve time management skills and educate herself on the definition of un professionalism and anger management. Give that man a raise.

It is imperative that Districts reward heroism instead of disciplining teachers for trying to keep students safe.

Punish the mother for not following the rules. Let her know that rules apply to her, too.
