The genuine inclusive and progressive culture at UWEC has made real impacts on students--and through those students, communities all around the state and nation--for years, and something I've felt immense pride around as an alum; Chris is a locus of this work and culture, and it's hard to accurately express the immense positive impact he has had on people and the world through his years of work at UWEC. For a university that historically has prided itself on this to then kowtow to an administration at the very real risk of its students' and staffs' safety and wellbeing is abhorrent. Know that you are not only marring UWEC's image, Gregg Heinselman and Mike Carney, but you are endangering real lives. Who do you care more about, your students and staff, or political figures who will never give you the approval you seem to be looking for?

As an alum still in the area, this is nauseating. Do better UWEC.

Stand against intolerance, show the country that UWEC welcomes all and doesn't just follow fear and bigotry.

Im a UWEC grad. Events like FireBall and the existence of the resource center were primary reasons I chose to attend UWEC over another college, and they were critical to my experience as a student.

As an alumnus and former employee, I publicly denounce these divisive and harmful decisions made by the administration. Public schools and universities should be a welcoming place for all to receive a quality education. Any student who feels less worthy as a human being because these resources are taken away cannot be fully present in their college career and student life. The administration has both symbolically and practically told the UW-Eau Claire community, "your existence is too political for us to be able to provide the service we promised you." How shameful. Now show us how you're going to make it right.

I'm a former student and both of my parents are former students as well. I'm also adopted, and ALL of my biological father's grandchildren are queer in some way. My bio-mom's family includes multiple UW professors (Madison and La Crosse). I think it's absolutely disgusting that the university is caving into the demands of this evil, degenerate administration.

The Fireball is such a fun events and losing it would be devastating! Keep Eau Claire a queer friendly campus.

As an alumna of UWEC, I'm devastated by the University's decisions. These aren't "just" budget cuts; they are betrayals of UWEC's commitment to inclusion and student well-being. Diversity is beautiful.

Eliminating this position is a horrendous decision. I am an alumni of UWEC & I can't believe this beautiful place would act so indecently as to remove its diversity.

UWEC needs to stand out as a university that will not succumb to the trump administrations hateful acts and beliefs. I am ashamed to be an alumni now.

As a queer alumni from UWEC this makes me not proud of where I graduated from I dont think we can call it wisconsins most beautiful campus if not everyone is welcome on campus.

Chris and the GSRC not only welcomed me, but helped me grow into the person I am through their incredible support, counsel, and opportunities created by them for me to use my skills, discover my passion, and find a community that I am proud to call home. I am a Diversity scholarship winner. I was there in the early days of The Fire Ball and am forever grateful for the chance to help bring it to life during my college years. Chris is a beloved mentor and friend, and I often think back on moments where they provided invaluable advice when moments arise for me to do the same. Cutting Chris and these departments is a staunch disservice to the university and the students who give their life, effort, and time to make UWEC the beautiful place that it is. We have hosted protests, performances, and always stood on the principle of our people are a force that can make monumental change. We are stronger when we uplift each other. We are more successful when we support each other - as Chris has done for thousands of UWEC students and members of the Chippewa Valley.
