When leaders like Chris, and programs that those leaders have championed are cast aside, there will always be an impact. Those with positional power clearly do not understand the value, but the impact will be immeasurable. In terms of community support, recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff, and in terms of broken trust. It will certainly effect the bottom line.

My senior year was full of bullying and harassment because I was visibly queer. When I toured UWEC, and went to the rainbow floors, I felt like I was at a safe haven. I’ve built my education and future career plans around wanting to help people. To know that a school that prides itself on being inclusive and supportive of marginalized students and communities is letting go of that, and my entire education could be compromised is devastating. We need support from the school that we’ve put our money and time and energy into.

The removal of Chris’s position and refusal to replace it is utterly disappointing, and I refuse to be idle about it. Do better UWEC

He was the faculty advisor for my a capella group and his expertise in DEI was very helpful to us. DEI is a necessary position for this university to run smoothly. It doesn’t have to be political.

I want to go to as many QFests and Fireballs as I can during my 4 years of living at UWEC. Being queer on campus is scary now because it feels like being queer on uwec campus is being erased.

This is a shameful decision to make at this juncture in our history. The students Chris serves need his support now more than ever. Posterity will not look kindly on cowardice like this.

Chris has played such a critical role in developing student belonging on campus. I was an intern under Chris at the GSRC back in 2019 and would not be who I am without his incredible work on campus. The GSRC was the first place I felt comfortable being openly queer and trans, and much of that is thanks to Chris. Shame on UWEC and its administration for caving to outside interests and not supporting the needs and well-being of its own student body. I'm ashamed to be a Blugold.

Didn’t think UWEC would turn its back on queer students like this. Shameful.

I chose to study at UWEC because it appeared to be an incredibly inclusive university. I am not proud to be an alumni after this decision. Do better EC.
