We can not ignore what information children pass down to us. If he had ignored this information and something had happened , he would have had to deal with children's deaths on his hands. I believe what he did was respectful to families, schools, and our community.

This man is an honorable officer that cars about saving lives! The school board was Terrible to let him go! I would rather be warned of a possible danger than mourn in the aftermath! Bring him back!

I SUPPORT Dan Novey's decision to relieve SRO Schelinder for his complete lapse in judgment!!
First, SRO Schelinder did the right thing when he notified Law Enforcement, which began an immediate investigation into the rumor and for that he should be commended. But, he completely screwed up when he posted it all over Facebook before the CCSD could finish the investigation and unnecessarily scared the public. This lapse in judgement completely justifies his dismissal and reveals that he is not emotionally capable of handling the duties of his job. An SRO should be able to handle these duties in a calm, rational manner. There are well-established protocols for dealing with rumors of threats and posting it all over FB is definitely NOT one of them. He should have known better, and if he didn't know better, as the facts of the case have revealed, it seriously calls into question his abilities to handle credible threats should they ever occur.
This is what we know: Schelinder's son, a student at CHS, shared a text with him about a threat of a shooting at CHS. Schelinder, correctly, notified the CCSD which began a investigation and alerted the School System's Central Office. They worked throughout the night investigating the rumor and found it to be baseless. Parents of CHS students were notified early Wed. that a rumor had been circulating, that it was baseless and that the school was deemed safe for attendance. As an extra level of precaution, CCSD posted more deputies in and around CHS.

Before CCSD could finish investigating or inform CHS parents of their findings, Schelinder posted the rumor of a threat all over Facebook and it spread like wildfire. When the SRO posted it on FB prematurely it added credibility to the threat when this was not yet justified. Parents reacted understandably to his post because of his position in Law Enforcement.
