At this present time, I have 2 children in the Carteret County School system. Two years ago, I had 4 children in the Carteret County School System. As a parent, we have the right to know about any potential danger to our children. As parents, we have the right to keep our children home if we feel it necessary. What if the information had been kept quiet and Officer Mitch had kept the information within law enforcement and an incident had occurred. If the life of a student or teacher had been loss, how would he live with that on his conscious ? What if by Officer Mitch putting the message out there, it prevented an incident. Knowledge that may endanger the life or lives of someone's child/children should never be kept from their parent(s). I applaud Officer Mitch and may God bless him for his boldness where many never take a stand for what is right.

I Imagine this decision was made because of protocol on sharing the information with the public? However, his intention was the safety of children & it appears he is passionate about his job protecting children & we need him to keep doing that job!

The BOE needs to apologize. Officer Mitch is a hero, friend/role model to the kids at WOES! Keep him where he BELONGS. So ashamed. Carteret Co. BOE makes it clear they are not concerned for the safety of our children!

I support this Officer and his decison for if this was a real threat then his actions may have saved countless lives and I my self work in Emergency Services and if it was one of my 3 kids that sent me a message I would have done the same to alert my friends and neighbors of the possible threat for it is better to act early on the side of caution than to wait until the threat is carried out and becomes reality so I commend this Officer for acting on the side of caution. Yes some of the information may have not been correct but when has the news media or school systems not made a mistake in a media release were all human and when given limited information when it involves one of our children things tend to become bigger than they real are due to a true parent becomes very protective of their own children and all the other children that their child is friends with and even their friends children. With this Officer working in the school system he did what anyone who loves kids would do he took on the responsibility to protect all those kids within that school system. So I ask you to ask yourselves what would you do if it was your kids and you were sent the same message by your child or any child that you were a signed to protect .
